  Urban + Rural Community Development Research Center Partners

U+R CDRC Partners

   
 

In addition to the partners listed below, the U+R CDRC is assembling an interdisciplinary team of professionals to develop a Scotlandville Comprehensive Community Development Plan (SCCDP) for the Scotlandville community. The team will include interdisciplinary partners necessary to develop the plan.  The list below includes our existing community partners, and a brief description of what they do.

   
 
  • Center For Social Research (CSR)
 

The purpose of the Southern University Center for Social Research is to contribute effectively to the enhancement of the community by addressing contemporary social, economic and policy issues affecting the community.  The U+R CDRC is assisting the CSR in developing a shared vision for the future of Scotlandville. To accomplish this goal, the U+R CDRC will assist the CSR in conducting a Community Needs Survey in the Scotlandville community, scheduled to begin in January 2010.  The results from this survey will set the foundation for the community vision

  • Louisiana AARP
 

Founded in 1958, AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization that helps people 50 and over improve the quality of their lives. AARP’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for all as we age, leading positive social change and delivering value to members through information, advocacy and service. In collaboration with Southern University, the AARP will sponsor a Livable Cities Academy workshop aimed at training several Scotlandville residents to become leaders within their community.

  • Community Against Drugs and Violence (CADAV)
 

CADAV’s mission is to combat drugs, street violence and social blight, thereby creating a safer and cleaner environment for our children to grow, prosper, and become productive self-sufficient citizens.

   
 
  • Scotlandville Community Development Corporation (SCDC)
 

SCDC’s mission is to be a catalyst for change by revitalizing the Scotlandville community and by providing financial education, and homes for first time homebuyers.  The U+R CDRC and CSR are working with CADAV and SCDC on community outreach activities in the Scotlandville area.

  • Resources for Independent Living (RIL)
 

The RIL provides quality services to the elderly and individuals with disabilities to assist with living independently.  They offer an array of services to include information and referral, advocacy, peer support and independent living skills training. In addition, RIL is one of the largest personal care attendant service providers in the southeast region of Louisiana. Next semester the RIL will conduct a community workshop to educate citizens of Scotlandville about services available to them directly through RIL, and other agencies. They will also work with the U+R CDRC in developing policies for the elderly and individuals with disabilities located within areas focused on by the Scotlandville Comprehensive Community Development Plan (SCCDP).

  • Capital Area Transit System (CATS)
 

CATS  provides  an affordable, safe, convenient, and reliable transportation system for current and potential transit patrons in the Baton Rouge are, including, Transit clients,  Commuters/other target groups, Students, Occasional/alternative riders,  Tourist, and Others.  Develop, operate, maintain, and grow the Capital Transportation system to the highest quality standards required to satisfy all patrons with competitive, clean, courteous, effective service on a scale of continuous improvements.

  • University of Texas, School of Architecture
 

Community and Reginal Planning program in University of Texas' specialization in economic and community development gives students a theoretical and practical understanding of planning methods and policy tools used to improve physical, economic and social conditions in regions and communities. Economic development practitioners' design and implement initiatives to encourage private investment, expand economic opportunities for citizens, and manage economic growth to meet broader community objectives. Those working in community development are frequently involved in self-help or mutual aid efforts of low-income or otherwise disadvantaged communities to improve their conditions through voluntary community-based organizations.
